Communications Design

 
You must have diverse design capabilities with strong branding, packaging and print background; ability to think strategically; experience in designing and managing short and long term high profile projects; decisive; good problem solver; can balance conflicting needs; can identify and overcome challenges; motivate team members all while meeting project objectives on time and budget. You have knowledge in business strategy, experience managing clients, strong design, presentation and project management skills, can work as a team leader as well as a team player.

Design Strategist - Shanghai
You are a natural problem solver, culturally astute, curious, observant and insightful.  You are extrinsically motivated to help solve problems to benefit others and are passionate about understanding people everywhere; what motivates and inspires.  You intimately understand the tacit nuances of doing business in China and can effectively marry that understanding with Continuum’s philosophy of human centered innovation.

Senior Designer

You understand that design is a powerful tool in helping create commercially successful and emotionally compelling designs.  You are an experienced designer, have a healthy amount of project management experience but are still very interested and involved in hands-on design. You have the ability to guide a project through the concept and detail development stages and are adept at verbally expressing your ideas in a way that thoroughly engages your audience. Most importantly, you’re interested in working with energetic people who strive to create compelling design solutions.

Junior Designer
You can envision and create emotionally compelling design solutions. You are an excellent problem solver and greatly enjoy tackling complex design challenges. Mechanical Engineering

 

Mechanical Engineering is a core capability within our product innovation business.   Projects include a broad range of mechanical engineering content including: Precision mechanics, microfluidics, opto-mechanical design, kinematics and mechanism design, electro-mechanical design and integration, sensing, control, and automation.

Example recent projects have included induction heater-based commercial appliances, DNA detection equipment, surgical illumination systems, fluid pumps, and high-volume consumer products.

Mechanical Engineer

You have a solid background with 3-D CAD tools (SolidWorks and Pro/E), manufacturing processes, and lab and shop work.  You are creative, energetic and passionate about solving problems.  You care about the big picture and are thorough about the details.  You communicate effectively, play nicely with others, love getting your hands dirty, and your attitude is mostly in-check.  You know your way around a shop, can develop simple proof-of-concept prototypes, have a strong theoretical background, and at least a BSME.  When presented with a steep learning curve, you derive satisfaction from using all of your talents, and acquiring new ones, to climb fast and well.

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Surgical Instrument Expertise 

We live in the space where human centered design, technology, and engineered systems converge.  Our projects include a diversity of engineering and technical content as we work to develop electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical products, medical devices, clinical diagnostic and therapeutic systems, and consumer, commercial, and industrial products.  We are looking for a candidate who has had 5+ years of experience developing invasive surgical devices and instruments.  But the road does not end there.  Continuum develops many human centered, technology driven systems for a wide range of clients, and candidates will have the desire to be involved with programs that go well beyond the world of surgical instruments and devices.

Electrical Engineering

 

Electrical and Software Engineering is a core capability within our product innovation business. Our projects include a broad range of electrical engineering content including: RF systems, embedded microprocessor and DSP systems, programmable logic devices, analog filter design, transducer conditioning, electromechanical subsystem interfacing, firmware and software.

Software-Hardware Test Engineer
This is a two-fold position.  The candidate's primary responsibilities will be developing and performing all software testing, including unit tests using scripting languages.  The candidate will oversee and execute the firmware/software quality process at Continuum, and have a central role in its ongoing refinement.  He or she will be responsible for the verification and validation of embedded software and systems to detailed requirements.  Knowledge of software test practices is a plus.  Secondary responsibilities will be electronic hardware design, including schematic capture, overseeing board layout and prototyping, hardware testing, and integration with firmware and mechanical systems.  B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.

Embedded Systems Engineer II
The candidate's primary responsibilities will be developing firmware and software for embedded applications.  Platforms vary from small 8-bit microcontrollers to 32-bit microprocessors.  Knowledge of real time operating systems and adherence to code standards and best practices are essential. Using oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, function generators, and spectrum analyzers for debugging and development must be second-nature.   Secondary responsibilities will development of software for non-embedded platforms. These may include web based applications, desktop applications for various operating systems, or applications designed for mobile platforms. Tertiary responsibilities may include electronic hardware design, schematic capture, overseeing board layout and prototyping, hardware testing, and integration with firmware and mechanical systems.  B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.

Account Management

 
Engagement Manager
The Engagement Manager (EM) is a relatively new role to Continuum, crucial in helping us transition from a project-focused company to a client relationship-focused company. In the eyes of both the client and Continuum, this person holds ultimate responsibility for the health of the client relationship and is the point of escalation. This role has two key components, neither of which can be accomplished without the knowledge and insight gained in the other: 1) Relationship Management, or main contact and trusted advisor for the client (primarily externally facing) and 2) Account Coordination, providing leadership and integration across Continuum engagements with that client (primarily internally facing). In addition, the EM will either work closely with and/or fill the role of Business Development.

Client Account Manager
You are engaging and dynamic and are especially skillful in your communications, both written and oral. You work well in a team environment, and will be responsible for the identification and development of new client business opportunities. Previous experience in a similar position and/or in the product development domain is required.

Internships

You like to push the envelope and have endless energy to do so. Your appetite to learn about design or engineering is never satisfied. You have a strong curiosity about life in the professional work environment and are eager to experience it. Depending on the type of internship, design, strategy or engineering, you will help with concept generation, model building, product research, data analysis, instrumentation, and administrative activities as part of the product development process. Internships in marketing and research will also be considered.

For design and engineering internships-
Send a sample portfolio including sketches, work processes, technical drawings and final product pictures in addition to your resume. Your portfolio should express who you are and how you work. Unique one-liners required.

For strategy internships-
In addition to your resume, we’d like to see more detail about the type of projects you’ve worked on.  Send a sample portfolio or write a short summary of a project you feel represents how you work, your process, and more importantly, how you think.

Candidates should apply at least 2 months prior to their desired start date.

Internships in Boston are paid on an hourly basis.  Benefits are not provided.
